Hendee Manufacturing Company initially produced the motorcycles, but the name was changed to the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in 1928. The Indian factory team took the first three places in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. During the 1910s, Indian became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. By 1913, it had sold over 30,000 bikes.
Why are they made in America?
There are several reasons why Indian Motorcycles are made in America. One of the most important reasons is that the company wants to create jobs in the United States. Why not in India?
The Indian Motorcycle is not made in India, despite the name. The company is headquartered in Illinois in the United States. There are assembly plants in Iowa and Kansas where the motorcycles are put together.
The company was founded in 1901 by George M. Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is now a subsidiary of Polaris Industries.
The future
